March Pics

[CW: Spiders]

I have to be careful on very rainy days because all the huge slugs and snails come out in full force, such as this one which was snacking on the moss growing out of the decking. Seems to be the same species as this one I found last summer, just a much darker colour.

A long dark green slug with spotted markings all over its body.

A nice phat catterpillar that was crawling through the grass. Not sure why they've woken up this early into the year, it's still quite cold out...

A thick brown catterpillar.

My regular camera had trouble focusing on them, so here's a close up of the beast's head. Very leathery.

Close up of the previous catterpillar. Its skin is shiny and wrinkly.

Isopods! Not sure what species this one is but it had a smoother exoskeleton and darker pigments than the Porcellio scabers I normally see in the garden.

As usual, isopods are difficult to get non-blury photos of, but I'm glad the camera managed to capture its face. Isopods have delightfully bumpy eyes.

A dark brown isopod climbing a blade of grass, whilst whirling one antennae around in the air.

I took some photos of mushrooms and slimes last year but never got around to uploading them, hopefully I'll remember to do it soon. Anyway, here's some interesting white slimes found growing on decaying wood:

Lots of small white blobs of slime. Most of the blobs have clustered together into small groups.

And here's the same slime a few days later after it'd rained. Gloopy.

I didn't take photos, but I think the slime must have bloomed at some point as you can kinda see the remnants of sponge-like fibres hidden in the gloop.

Another photo of the slime. The individual clusters have converged into one single slime mass.

The zebra jumping spider I photographed last autumn was noticeably paler than they normally are, so here's another one in their usual black and white stripes.

Photo of a black and white striped jumping spider with its face pointing to the camera.

Bonus photo cause she has pretty colours on her abdomen!!

Top-down photo of the same spider. Its abdomen has small patches of orange and brown hairs mixed in with the black and white.

And finally we have, maybe a nursery web spider?

I saw this individual multiple times throughout the month, usually sunbathing on the same few plant pots. How could I tell she's the same spider? She's missing a leg!! Specifically her right front leg, which probably makes things a little difficult for her, but she seemed to be doing alright whenever I saw her.

A light brown spider with a flat body. It's missing one of its legs!
